68th COVID-related death this week

On Monday night Milam County’s 68th death was recorded, according to County Judge Steve Young. He also reported that our vaccination rate had increased to 44.51% which represents 9,389 Milam County residents. All people who have been hospitalized or who have died were unvaccinated.

‘Brett Fest’ October 24

Brett Boren with Brett’s Backyard Bar-B-Que will hold his three year anniversary with a BBQ “Brett Fest” and patrons will be able to sample barbecue from over 45 barbecue joints from Texas and beyond. The event will take place on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m.

Rockdale ISD board hears from school principals

At the RISD school board meeting on Monday night, the Milam County Health Department was recognized by Rockdale ISD for “Stand Up for Texas Public Schools” Recognition Program. Robert Kirkpatrick accepted the award for the Health Department for the 2020-2021 TASB Business Recognition Program.

• The resurfacing of US 79 would include the replacement of existing asphalt, curb and gutter, pedestrian facilities and various drainage improvements. Modified lane marking would improve safety and provide smooth traffic transitions.

Police arrest six during week; two accidents reported

The Rockdale Police Department made six arrests over the past week, all of them already had warrants on them. They also issued 20 citations for everything from speeding to failure to stop for a school bus. Officers responded to 296 calls for service and 112 of them were calls to 911.
