COVID-19 claims 39th victim

There has been yet another COVID-19 death. The Milam County death toll now stands at 39. There are seven Milam County residents hospitalized with the virus and two are on ventilators.

Milam County sheriff resigns

Chris White has resigned as sheriff of Milam County as of Monday. He gave Milam County Judge Steve Young his resignation Monday afternoon saying it was effective immediately. White was reelected to his second term in November of the past year.

Milam County had its 38th COVID-19 related death and the active cases are up four to 38. Today testing is in Rockdale at the former hospital on Pecos from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you are a Milam County resident with COVID symptoms, you can get a free antigen test.

Area evacuated after wreck south of Cameron

Around 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, a BNSF train carrying mixed freight derailed south of Cameron after it was struck by an 18-wheeler at the CR 229 crossing. A statement from BNSF said that out of 110 cars, 13 derailed. Five of the impacted cars were carrying gasoline and caught fire.

Milam receives huge grant

Milam County Judge Steve Young got word Friday that his and his associates grant work has paid off. The county has been given a $3.77 million Economic Development Administration Cares Act Recovery Assistance grant that it applied for months ago.
