Hospitalization rate drops below 15%

The hospitalization rate dropped below 15%, for the first time in about 6 weeks to 14.52%.  "If we stay at 15% or lower for 7 consecutive days, the business occupancy rate will go back to 75% and the bars can reopen," County Judge Steve Young said in his daily email.

Milano announces lone finalist for superintendent

Dr. Elisabeth Avila Luevanos is the lone finalist for the superindentent's job that will be open at the end of this school year. Robert Westbrook is retiring from the position at the end of this school year, the district said. Luevanos has been in education for over 15 years.

There are nine new Milam County hospitalizations to report today. "In addition, our hospitalization rate is currently 15.38%. The hospitalization rate must be 15% or lower for 7 consecutive days before occupancy rates increase and bars can open.

Death toll from COVID-19 goes up, again

There has been another COVID-19 related death in Milam County. This is the eleventh death  reported in the past 11 days, bringing the total death count to 29 since the pandemic started.  "We have now reported over 2,000 confirmed infections in Milam County and 150 have been hospitalized.

Milam County has had 10 COVID-19 deaths in past 10 days

"Today was another sad day for Milam County as I regret to advise of three more deaths in Milam County. We now have 28 COVID related deaths in Milam County since the pandemic started. This makes 10 deaths in the last 10 days," MIlam County Judge Steve Young wrote in an email on Thursday.

COVID-19 vaccinations today for 300 on the list

Today Milam County will administer 300 first round doses at the former Cameron hospital located at 806 N. Crocket from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This will be done by appointment only. The first 300 people on the waiting list have been contacted. If you have been called, go to http://www.milamcounty.
