The Rockdale Reporter’s popular and well-received 43-year Black History Series did not die when revered author Susie Sansom-Piper died in October 2019. Tamara Powell, Piper’s granddaughter, has agreed to write a series for 2021.

Filing shows just a few candidates so far

While the filing deadline two weeks away, only a few incumbents have made their intentions know to seek reelection and no new faces have emerged on the filing front. No one has filed for office in Rockdale for the two seats on the City Council whose terms expire this year.

Preservation foundation holding online auction

When the Rockdale Police Department relocated in March 2019 from the old City Hall, much of the office furniture was left behind. Before any work on the building can begin, most of these items need to be cleared.

Rainwater harvesting online class is Feb. 5th

Those interested in rainwater harvesting can join a “live” and online seminar to learn the basics of rainwater collection, how to cre-ate your own system and see different systems with live on-site demonstrations. The virtual Rainwater Harvesting 101 class is Feb. 5 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Milam County 4-H members competed in a National 4-H FCS Skillathon Competition on Jan. 8. The 4-H members competed during the summer in the Texas State Virtual Contest to compete in the national competition. The top two teams from the state for the national competition.
