On the fourth Thursday in November, families across the U.S. gather to feast on turkey, watch football and gear up for Christmas by looking for Santa during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but did you ever wonder why these Thanksgiving traditions started?

QUICK LOOK
Rockdale’s annual free Thanksgiving luncheon is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Last year more than 1,000 plates were distributed.
Meals are available to eat in or to go and there’s free delivery to the elderly, ill or shut ins.
Next week’s Reporter will be published on Tuesday, instead of the normal Wednesday, due to the Thanksgiving holiday in order for advertisers to get their Thanksgiving specials to readers before the big turkey day.
Deadline for advertising and news copy will be 12-noon Friday.
Deadline to turn in the traditional hand-written Santa letters to The Reporter is Friday, Dec.
6. Letters need to contain both the first and last names of the child.
They can be dropped off at the office, 221 E. Cameron.
Actually it’s been fall for two months but, as usual, leaves in the Rockdale area wait until late November-early December to blaze in their full glory. Those that are left, that is. Winds of up to 50 miles per hour claimed lots of leaves a couple of weeks ago. But not all.
