The 21st annual Tree of Angels ceremony is set at 6 p.m. Monday at 112 West First in downtown Cameron on the courthouse square.

Participants are asked to bring a decorative angel commemorating a loved one lost to violent crime. Members of the military and law enforcement will also be honored.

Angels should be tagged with the first and last names of the person being honored.

Donations can also be made to the Tree of Angels at Buckholts State Bank in Buckholts, Cameron, or Rogers. For information, call the DA’s office at 697-7013.

The ceremony is observed every year in programs across Texas and enables survivors of violent crimes and victim’s families to place an angel ornament on a special tree in support of or in memory of a loved one.

Members of the armed services and law enforcement will also be honored.

The public is invited to attend and support the victims and their families and the fallen and injured soldiers and law enforcement.

Participants are asked to bring an angel ornament tagged with the first and last name of the person to be remembered. Refreshments will be available.

In 1991, the Tree of Angels was initiated in Austin, Texas by Verna Lee, Executive Advisor of People Against Violent Crime, to recognize that the holiday season is a difficult time for victims and their families.

This special event in December honors surviving victims of violent crime and victims’ families by making it possible for loved ones to bring an Angel to place on a special Christmas tree.

Goal is that the Tree of Angels allows families and communities to remember, include and support victims of crime.

“These innocent victims are a part of our lives and a part of the community,” Lee said.

Since its inception, the Tree of Angels has become a memorable tradition observed in many Texas communities.
