100 YEARS AGO… Damage to the amount of approximately $20 at the William Cameron Company Lumber Yard was done Friday afternoon, Aug. 13, when lightning struck at the front of the building, according to R.C. Allen, manager of the local yard.

Fresh okra three ways

Jody new pastor at St. John’s UMC

Rev. Bryan Jody is the new pastor of St. John’s United Methodist Church. He and his family—wife Sarah and daughters, Rebekah, 7, and Anna, 5— have already moved into the church’s parsonage. Rev. Jody is originally from Houston, and he comes from the A&M United Methodist Church in College Station.

Alot of people know what we call the Lord’s Prayer (it’s really just a model for prayer). It’s in Matthew 6:9 and it starts out with, “Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name.” The idea that God is in Heaven is not about distance.

The Gospel of Mark retells Jesus entering the synagogue and seeing a man with a withered hand. Mark says, “They watched him to see whether he would cure him on the sabbath, so that they might accuse him.” Why were they watching Jesus?

A salad to seduce the taste buds

Back in my analogue days, I used to cut out recipes and either tape them into a cookbook or onto my fridge. That system from the 1900s has been replaced with digital recipe videos. I’ve noticed that back in analogue time in addition to saving the recipe – I actually made it.
