FIRST PLACE— Rockdale’s Jon Fuller captured first place in the boys’ 5K with a time of 16 minutes, 41.10 seconds as the Tigers and Lady Tigers opened their cross-country season Saturday in Smithville. Rockdale will return to competition Friday in Waco.

BELTON—Thorndale’s cross country teams opened their season with a pair of top-three finishes Friday at the Belton Cross Country Invitational held at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area. The Lady Dogs placed second in the 1A-4A division, finishing only a handful of points behind a Class 4A team.

Professional wrestling took center stage Saturday as 360 Pro Wrestling brought Rockdale Riot to the Rockdale Knights of Columbus Hall. The Aug. 22 event featured a card filled with championship matches, tagteam competition and several well-known names from the Texas independent wrestling scene.

The Rockdale Lady Tigers placed fourth in their home tournament Saturday after pushing Florence to three sets in a tightly contested third-place match. Rockdale split the first two sets with the Lady Buffaloes, falling 25-23 before responding with a 25-23 victory.
