Rockdale and Little River-Academy have met only 14 times, but the series stretches back nearly a century. After two meetings in the early 1930s, the Tigers and Bumblebees went 82 years without facing each other before renewing the series in 2014.

Rockdale’s Jon Fuller won the varsity boys race at the Academy cross country meet last week with a time of 15:39.21. The Tigers finished fifth in the boys’ team standings. Rockdale also had two top-10 f inishers in the junior varsity girls race.

In the JV boys race, Angel Rivera finished second and Jonah Norvell seventh.

A new tradition was born in Milam County and it belongs entirely to the Blue and Gold. The Rockdale Youth Varsity Tigers delivered a commanding 34–6 statement victory over rival Cameron Yoe to capture the championship in the first annual Milam County Showdown.

THRALL— Rockdale’s varsity volleyball team (6-22, 0-6) won the opening set against Thrall (1914, 4-2) on Tuesday but lost the district match 25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 14-25. Kyndal Selgelid led Rockdale against Thrall with 15 kills and four aces.

Thorndale’s varsity volleyball team (15-17, 2-0) swept both of its matches last week, beating Texas Lions Academy of Austin (15-19-2) in a non-district match Tuesday and Bartlett (5-14, 0-3) in district play Thursday. TLA— Tuesday’s sets were close throughout. The Lady Dogs won 25-23, 25-22, 25-22.

McIrvin scores four TDs in junior high victory over Thorndale Rockdale’s junior varsity football team remained unbeaten with a 29-20 victory over Thorndale last week. The Tigers improved to 3-0 behind four touchdowns from the combination of quarterback Hayze Hamr ick and Canaan Miles.
