GIDDINGS—The fourth annual Country Gospel Jamboree is set for Sunday at the Giddings High School auditorium.
The opry-style show kicks off at 6:30 p.m., hosted by Second Chance, the band of the Cowboy Church of Lee County.
Admission is free and $8 hamburger plates will be available starting at 5:30.
Second Chance consists of award-winning fiddler and vocalist Paul Schlesinger of Taylor, his wife Tara Schlesinger on piano, and bassist Bill Tucker of Lexington. Steel guitarist Roy Carroll of Round Rock and drummer Jim Bowles of Austin will round out the band.
Featured act is 2 Blessed by Grace, a vocal duo featuring Julie Stermer of Cameron and Deby Leschber of Thorndale.
The two first sang together by chance in 2010 at the Milam County Cowboy Church.
The husband and wife team of Tommy and Cindy Hart of Lexington will serve as the first guests on the show. This will be their fourth appearance on the Jamboree.
Lexington’s Phil Richardson, known as the “Singin’ Deacon,” has been performing country gospel music for the last 24 years.
He is the song leader at the Tanglewood Baptist Church and specializes in Hank Williams-style country gospel songs.
David Jordan of Waco is a Christian Country musician and songwriter.
He got his musical start as a teenager in a Milano area country band back in the 1980s. His latest song, “Life More Abundantly,” debuted April 7 on HLE Radio, the number one Christian Country internet radio station, and will be featured on the Country Gospel Jamboree.
Kimberlyn and Curtis Krause are a daughter-father team from Giddings. Kimberlyn sings, plays guitar, piano, fiddle, accordion and banjo. Performing on stage since age 7, she is currently studying to be a teacher at Texas A&M and serves as worship leader of the Praise Team Band at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in College Station.
Her father, Curtis, has played bass professionally with many area bands and currently serves with the Immanuel Lutheran Praise Team in Giddings.
Last year’s show drew a crowd of nearly 300, with attendees coming from as far as Waco. This year’s show is dedicated to the memory of the late Chip Dunsmoor, who served as music team leader for the Milam County Cowboy Church and was its drummer for many years.
The Jamboree is presented in a non-denominational format.
Sponsors are Second Chance, the music ministry of Tommy and Cindy Hart, and the Cowboy Church of Lee County.
All donations/proceeds will benefit “Mission Mescalero,” a mission trip to the Apache Nation hosted by Soldiers of the Cross Cowboy Fellowship and the Cowboy Church of Lee County.
