Judge hosts mayors for development discussion

CAMERON—Economic development was the topic for discussion between i County Judge and mayors of county cities in a meeting Tuesday at the Milam County Courthouse.

Young reviewed a number ongoing economic development activities he had previously shared with commissioners and the public.

Those included the possibility of solar farm coming to the county, the ongoing Bitmain project at the former Alcoa smelter (see story, page 1A) and increased oil activity in the county’s southeastern corner.

Young noticed the additional oil play has already had an impact on the county’s sales tax rebates.

The judge noted Milam’s central location in Texas and pointed out its closeness to some of the nation’s largest cities.

In addition to geography he pointed out Milam’s advantages in power infrastructure, underground water availability and other areas.
