CAMERON—It’s a huge weekend May 4 and 5 in Cameron’s Ledbetter Park surrounding the 2018 Cameron Fun Fest and Barbecue Shootout. This year, the event will include the barbecue competition, kids fun zone, the Beer & Brat Trot 5K, Kid Fish, arts & crafts, horseshoe and washer tournaments, and live music. BBQ—There’s cooking both days in the CTBA-sanctioned barbecue cookoff. May 4 (Friday) turn-ins are for salsa, Margaritas and chili. The next day it’s the turn of jackpot beans, chicken, exotics, pork ribs and beef (brisket). RUN/WALK—May 5 kicks off bright and early with the 5K Beer and Brat (the sausage kind) Trot. Check-in for both the 5K and kids Root Beer and Hot Dog 1K is from 7 to 8 a.m. in the Girl Scout Hut in the southern section of Ledbetter Park. A continental breakfast will be served. There will be prizes and T-shirts for participants and top finishers receive cash and awards. There are also prizes for best costume and biggest group. FAMILY FUN—Events during the day at the park, include arts and crafts, washer and horseshoe tourney kids fun zone, kids fishing and lots of family fun. Ledbetter Park is located on FM 1600 at the southern edge of Cameron. CONCERT—There’s free music May 4 and then it all wraps up Saturday night, May 5, with two bands during Party in the Park. At 9 p.m. Hip Hop Hooray opens for Vegas Stars. Vegas Stars belt out dance/rock/rap/pop hits from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and all the way up to today’s chart-topping hits.
