The City of Milano will be ringing with Christmas cheer this weekend as it is time for the annual Christmas parade and meal, as well as the community Christmas decorating contest.

Judging for the city’s annual Christmas decorations contest will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Plaques will be awarded to the winners at the community Christmas meal following the parade on Saturday. All city residents have to do to enter is have their Christmas decorations/lights turned on and the judges will be driving around town to make their selections.

The city’s annual Christmas parade will be held Saturday. Line-up will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the Milano football field parking lot, with judging at 10 a.m. and the parade starting at 10:30 a.m. If you are not ready to go at 9:55 a.m. then you won’t be eligible for judging.

This year’s theme is “Old Time Country Christmas.” Plaques will be award to first place winners and ribbons to second and third places in the following divisions: floats, bicycles/walking/small animals, small motorized/battery operated (golf carts, lawn mowers, four wheelers), vehicles/tractors and horses/wagons. Special plaques and prizes will be awarded for best overall entry and to the first place float.

After the parade, the city will host its annual free community Christmas meal at the civic center.

SINGING—Milano United Methodist Church invites the community to an old-fashion Christmas Hymn sing at 6 p.m. Monday at the church. Refreshments will follow, including finger sandwiches, desert and punch. Kathy Turner will play the piano and will perform special music.

ROUNDUP— Christmas Roundup boxes for the Milano and Gause area will be distributed from the Milano Community Center (located across from the Milano Post Office) this year, according to area coordinator Eldon Ball. Those Milano and Gause recipients that designated that they would pick up their boxes can do so at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17 and 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the community center. Home deliveries will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 18 for the remaining Milano and Gause recipients.

CHILI SUPPER—The Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s annual chili supper set for Feb. 16 at the fire station.

The event will conclude with the drawing of 10 big prizes for the group’s annual fundraiser. Tickets for the annual drawing are now on sale and are $5 each or five for $20.

Prizes include: two Henry Golden Boy 22 LR, two Taurus Public Defender .45/410, Remington 700, Marlin 336W 30-30, Remington 870 Shotgun, Ruger American Bolt Action 22 LR, Taurus 738 TCP 380 and $100 Academy gift card.

BOX TOPS—Milano Elementary School is collecting Box Tops for Education again this school year and there are several that can be found on all those items you use during the holiday baking season. Those little coupons equal free money for our school and students. Let me know if you need me to swing by and pick them up, or you can send them to Milano Elementary School with your favorite student.
