RSBC to host revival, play in future weeks
Rising Star Baptist
Church, 1055 Texas Street, Rev. Royal Johnson, pastor, has a number of activities planned in upcoming
weeks.
The church is currently conducting a drive for new and gently used tennis
shoes for students of the
Rockdale ISD.
Donations will be accepted after 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from Sept. 26 through Oct. 31 at the church.

PLAYS—At 7 p.m. Nov. 3, the church’s Fine Arts Ministry will present a faith-based play written and directed by Stanley Miller.
Co-director is Joyce Ford.
Title is “The Life of Emma Pearl/The Burial of Old Jack Devil. Donation is $5 per person.
REVIVAL—Rising Star will hold a fall revival Tuesday through Thursday, Oct. 16-18.
Service begin at 7 p.m. each evening. Speaker will be Dr. Anthony Lang, pastor of West Union Baptist Church, Bryan.
VETERANS DAY—Special guest speaker during the 11 a.m. service on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, will be Willy Culberson (U.S. Army, retired) of Smithville.
FOOD FOR KIDS—Rising Star has begun a “Food for Kids” meal at 5 p.m. each fourth Wednesday of the month. Anyone wishing to donate to this effort can call Rev. Johnson, 512-576-4483.
Pleasant Hill UMC chili/auction Saturday
THORNDALE—Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church, 852 FM 458, will hold its annual chili supper and live auction fund-raiser on Saturday, Sept. 29.
The chili serving will start at 5 p.m., served by the bowl, pint or quart. The live auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. featuring a wide variety of items.
Directions: From Thorndale traffic light, take FM 486 south six miles. Turn east on CR 458.

Shiloh Baptist holding weekly rummage sales
THORNDALE—First Shiloh Baptist Church is holding weekly “Everything Must Go” rummage sales each Thursday and Friday during September.
The sales are held at 121 South Main Street in Thorndale in the old Richter Construction Building, according to Diana Casario, publicist.
Proceeds go to the Family Life Center building fund.
Casario said the weekly sales feature “all kinds of merchandise, all at low affordable prices.” Items include books, household goods, furniture, toys, clothing and more, she said.

San Gabriel Baptist plans gospel singing
SAN GABRIEL—San Gabriel Baptist Church will host an old-fashioned gospel singing Saturday, Sept. 29 beginning at 6 pm.
The evening will feature congregational singing, solos, and instrumental specials and traditional hymns as well as conventional and contemporary gospel music.
Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall following the singing. Everyone is invited to participate.
The church is located at 263 County Road 421A in the community of San Gabriel six miles north of Thorndale just off FM 486 North. Tim Cheatham is pastor.

St. Thomas Episcopal to hold evening prayer
St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Rockdale is holding Evening Prayer every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. , according to the Rev. Pam Graham, vicar.
“On the first Wednesday of the month we will celebrate Holy Eucharist.
All are welcome to attend,” she said.
