Volunteer Brenda Barchenger hands a family chili lunch over to Nathan Flores who was in line with his son Liam for Sunday’s fundraiser for Kristi Martin. The Willies cooked over 75 pounds of chili meat and served around 250 bowls. A busy day which included chili sales, three homemade cakes being auctioned off and attendees donating extra money, the affair took in a little over $2,000. According to Daniel Willie, “Of course people have been donating clothes, household items, furniture and money since the fire on Jan. 14. We are so happy and proud of the community who always seem to help when someone is in need. It really makes Rockdale a great place to live.”
