RHS students wins state in Skills USA contest
CORPUS CHRISTI—Nathan Thomas, a student at Rockdale High School, won first place and received a gold medal during the weekend in the SkillsUSA competition held in Corpus Christi.
Thomas won the Employment Application Process competition.
“This is our first year to compete in SkillsUSA and it is quite an honor to have a state champion in an event,” Britina Pesak, Director of Career and Technical Education, said.
Others competing for Rockdale included Aaron Avila, Joseph Nieto, Jacob Davis, Enrique Rivera and Lane Wallace in Construction Tool Identification and James Weller in Welding Application.
More than 7,000 student attend or compete in the annual Texas SkillsUSA competition, specializing in more than 100 occupational and leadership skills area, 75 technical information testings and display 3,000 job exhibits.
Fifteen artists inducted in downtown ceremony
Fifteen Rockdale High School art students were inducted into the Art National Honor Society in a downtown ceremony Thursday afternoon.
The induction was held in conjunction with the annual spring RHS Art Show.
Artwork from that show remains on display in The Community Room, 109 North Main.
Those inducted were listed as follows, according to instructor Jean Griffin.
Shaun Bergman, Ryleigh Eanes, Luis Iruegas, Christina Martinez-Sanchez.
Fernando Luna, Aubrey Montelongo, Logan Palm, Shaunancey Cloer.
Nathanial Bailey, Mackenzie Musto, Ethan Morgan.
Jacob Davis, Russell Kelley, Angel Lopez, Amelia Salomon.
