MISD REPORT
The Sunflower Run/ Walk benefiting the Melodie Hope Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund will be held Saturday at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell.
Melodie graduated in May of 2015 and died in a tragic car accident on July 4, 2017.
She was always quick to give a smile and had such a sweet, gentle spirit about her. Melodie will always be loved and missed.
Her family has started a scholarship fund in her memory. The Sunflower Run/Walk will help to fund the scholarship.
The Kids 1 mile Fun Run starts at 8:30 am while the 5K Sunflower Fun Run starts at 9. If possible, come out and support not only a worthy cause but the memory and spirit of such a wonderful young lady who left us too soon.
Our junior-high and high school cross-country teams will be there supporting Melodie as well.
REPORT CARDS—We will issue report cards for the first six weeks next week and have scheduled an early out Oct. 5 to allow parents to have meetings with teachers to discuss their children’s academic progress.
POTHOLES—The rains that we have received recently have been great.
This will help our area ranchers as they prepare for the upcoming winter months.
However, it does create plenty of potholes and rough roads for our buses as they pick up students on our county roads.
Our county commissioners have their hands full as they try to keep up with the difficulties this creates in maintaining our roads.
RUNNERS—Our varsity cross country runners competed Saturday in Brenham a meet which attracts some of the premier cross-country programs in the state.
Parker Jones finished eighth out of over 300 runners.
SPIKERS—Coach Wendy King’s volleyball team is battling for playoffs again this year. The girls will travel to Holland on Saturday to open up the second round of district.
LIGHTNING—The varsity football team saw Mother Nature win Friday night in the scheduled home game against Iola.
Lightning forced the cancellation of the game and with the district opener scheduled Friday in Thrall, both coaches decided not to try and play it on Saturday.
Our junior high squad did get their first game of the year in on Thursday, defeating Iola 30-0.
