Reception Oct. 17 for

marketing director

The City of Rockdale will host a meet and greet reception for Cassie “Caz” Muske, its new marketing director on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

The meet and greet is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Community Room, 107 North Main Street.

Muske, who started working for the city Oct. 1, will complete her master’s in public administration from Penn State University in the spring of 2019, she said.

Benefit ahead for brain tumor patient Oct. 28

A benefit for Roxli Doss—10-year-old granddaughter of James and Denice Doss, and daughter of Scott and Gena Doss—is set for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at the KC Hall.

Barbecue plates will be sold beginning at 11 a.m.

There’s a live auction at 1 p.m. and rolling silent auction throughout the day.

Activities also include a washer tourney, Roxli’s jewelery “go fish” and music by the Communities in Concert Band.

POSGCD committee

schedules meeting

MILANO—The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) Community Outreach Committee will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 23, in the POSGCD office on US 190/79-Texas 36 in Milano.

Purpose is to host an open forum for Milam and Burleson County residents to discuss topics and issues with directors and staff.

Topics to be covered include district rules, management plan, Aquifer Conservancy Program, public interface for sharing well monitoring telemetry with the public.

Directors ask individuals planning to discuss a topic which requires technical or legal background to allow staff tie to prepare for a discussion.

Surplus food giveaway Thursday at KC Hall

Central Texas Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry will have its monthly distribution at 9 a.m. Thursday at the KC Hall east of Rockdale.

Organizers said volunteers will be needed and “greatly appreciated.”

Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The free distributions are held the third Thursday of each month. Clients are asked to bring sacks and boxes for groceries.

RISD gets clean audit

report on Monday

Rockdale ISD trustees were advised Monday the district had received a clean audit report for 2017-18.

Board members met in regular monthly session in the Central Administration Building and heard the report summary from Belt-Harris-Pechacek.

Trustees also discussed moving ahead with a Distinguished Alumni Awards Program to honor post-school achievements made by Rockdale High and Aycock High School graduates.

In other business the board okayed graduation under new alternative graduation requirements for five persons, three of whom were on hand Monday.

Big Blue Band concert, marching contest set

The Rockdale High School Big Blue Band will stage its annual free fall concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the RHS Auditorium.

It will feature RISD bands, including the RHS Jazz Band, director Adrian Acevedo said.

On Saturday the band will perform at UIL Marching Contest, taking the field at 3:30 p.m. at Giddings High School.

Last Saturday the band was second overall in Class 3A and earned excellent ratings in the Buccaneer Marching Festival in Bren-ham. Flute soloist Marina Costilla was named outstanding soloist in class.

Last Thursday the band received excellent ratings at the Crusader Marching Band Invitational at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.

‘Mystery’s in the Heir’

CAMERON—Milam Community Theater will stage “Mystery’s in the Heir,” opening Saturday at the William’s Event Center in Cameron.

The “Who Done It Clue-esque” play lets the audience decide the fate of one of the cast members by choosing him or her as the “killer,” Brenda Sanders, spokesperson, said.

“With three weekends’ worth of entertainment, feel free to attend more than once and accuse someone else the next time,” she said

Showtimes are 7 p.m. Saturdays at 7 p.m. on Oct. 20, 27 and Nov. 3 and 2 p.m. Sundays, Oct. 21, 28 and Nov. 4.
