Minerva homecoming set Sunday, October 7

The 58th annual Minerva Homecoming and Community Gathering will be held at noon Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Minerva Community Center, 378 CR 232 Loop.

“Bring your family and friends to enjoy a covered dish lunch while visiting with friends, family and neighbors,” said Deborah Dean, spokesperson. “Bring photos and memories to share.”

A brief Minerva-Midway Cemetery meeting will be held.

Crown Garden Club hears program on bees

The Crown Garden Club met Sept. 20 in the home of Patsy David with 10 members in attendance.

Jimette Fatheree presented a program on bees.

Door prizes were won by Pat Overall, Barbara Valek and Patricia McKee.

Next club meeting will be a field trip to Temple Oct. 18. Members will tour Earthscape Nursery with lunch at Green’s Sausage House in Zabcikville

Free Thanksgiving meal set Nov. 10 at Thorndale

THORNDALE—A free Community Thanksgiving Meal will be served from11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Thorn-dale Fireman’s Hall.

Sunday washer tourneys run through September

Washer tournaments benefiting the American Cancer Society are held at 5 p.m. each second and fourth Sunday at the Apache Pass Ice House. Tourneys will be held through September. Registration is at 4 p.m., $20 per team, double elimination. Prizes go to top three teams.

T-SHIRTS—Orders for gray or black T-shirts benefiting the ACS are being taken. Prices: $15 (short sleeve, district brand) and $20 (long-sleeve, port and company performance brand). Sizes are small to 6XL. FMI: Kim Jeter, 512-760-7194.

Honey bees ‘all the buzz’ October 5th program

The El Camino Real chapter of Texas Master Naturalists will present “Learn About Honey Bees, from 9 a.m. to 12-noon Friday, Oct. 5, in The Community Room, 109 North Main.

The event is free and open to the public.

Schedule is as follows:

• 9 a.m.—Refreshments, meet local beekeeper.

• 10 a.m.—Keynote speaker Mary Reed, Texas A&M University.

• 11 a.m.—Questions and answers with bee experts. Learn about beekeeping operations, bee removal, killer bees, more.

Milano VFD Auxiliary slates fall garage sale

MILANO—The Fall Garage Sale of the Milano Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be held Oct. 4-6 as follows:

Oct. 4-5, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Oct, 6, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Location is the Milano Fire Station on US 79/190-Texas 36 in Milano.

The building will be open on Thursday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and daily beginning Monday, at 8 a.m. to receive donations.

Master Gardeners plan fall rose sale Oct. 13th

This year’s Little River Basin Master Gardeners Association (LRBMGA) Fall Rose sale is set for Saturday, Oct. 13.

Roses will be sold at two locations, the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Downtown Cameron at “Steaktober Fest from 10 a.m to 7 p.m.

Both locations will have the same roses in a variety of colors; Belinda Dream, Climbing Pinkie, South Africa, Living Easy, Hot Cocoa, Cinco de Mayo, climbing Don Juan, Plum Perfect, Cadenza, and F. J. Lindheimer to name a few.

The roses sell below market value for $18 and no tax since the LRBMGA is a nonprofit association under the auspices of the AgriLife Extension Service.—Jennifer Lazarow, marketing committee.

Matinee Musical Club meets at Walker home

The Matinee Musical Club met Sept. 17 at the home of Gloria Walker. She and Pam Graham were co-hostesses.

Members decided to support Opera for the Ozarks with an annual membership fee of $25.

The club is raising funds for the Louise Hale Sessions Memorial Scholarship. Each member received a book of 20 ticket to sell. Drawing will be at the library Nov. 2 First Friday Coffee. Winner gets one homemade dessert each month for a year.

The 2018 scholarship winner was Zach Stockton.

Donnie Rinn gave a program on club procedures and organization. Matinee Musical Club is a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs—Pam Graham, secretary.
