Master Gardeners set
2019 class schedule
Little River Basin Master Gardener Association (LRBMGA) is opening registration for the 2019 Master Gardener class.
Classes will meet on Wednesdays from Jan. 9 through May 15, from 8:45 a.m. to 12-noon at the Cameron Chamber of Commerce meeting room.
The program offers a minimum of 50 hours of instruction, including field trips.
Fee for the class is $175, which includes The Master Gardener Handbook and other amenities.
Speakers are experts in their fields including lawn care, trees and shrubs, disease and weed management, soils, plant nutrition, vegetable and herb gardening, home fruit production, water conservation, and Earth-Kind.
In exchange for training and to become a certified Master Gardener, 50 volunteer hours are required before the end of the calendar year.
Anyone interested, or who would like to purchase a gift registration, contact the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, milam-tx@tamu.edu, 254-697-7045, 100 E. First St. in Cameron.
Alcoa Retirees slate Christmas meeting
Next meeting of the Rockdale Alcoa Retirees will be the annual Christmas get-together Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Thorndale VFW Hall. Doors open at 5 p.m.
Retirees are reminded to bring canned goods to be donated to area food banks.
All retirees are encouraged to bring their favorite desserts for this meeting.—Doug Williams, spokesman.
No KC Game night due to Christmas activities
There won’t be a game night in December at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
According to KC Council 7014, the hall is being used for Christmas activities, including the annual Christmas Roundup.
The game night will return in January and continue on the second Sunday of the month.
Only one ACS washer tourney in December
There will only be one American Cancer Society washer tourney at Apache Pass in December.
The tourneys are usually held twice a month, on the second and forth Sundays, but there will only be one this month, according to Kim Jeter, spokesperson.
“We are having it only on the third Sunday because of the Christmas holiday,” she said.
The tourneys will go back to their twice-a-month schedule on the second and fourth Sundays in January, Jeter said.
FFA poinsettias still on sale for the holidays
Friends for FFA still has holiday poinsettias for sale.
Mandy Jenkins, spokesperson, said the plants are $12 each and several are still available for purchase.
“We have both red and white,” she said.
All proceeds go to benefit Rockdale Future Farmers of America.
Anyone interested in purchasing poinsettias can contact Rockdale High School at 512-430-6150 or get in touch with Jenkins at 512-429-0282.
