Music Club celebrates second with yule songs

The Matinee Musical Club met at the home of Leah Thomason with Mary Jane Boyd as co-hostess.

It was reported that the ‘Christmas at the Kay’ Program Sunday, Dec. 2, was very successful.

Pam Graham announced that she was moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico and would no longer be able to be the secretary of the club.

Program, “The Holly and the Ivy” was presented by Joyce Ford and Pam Graham.

Members sang “The Holly and the Ivy” accompanied by Graham on the guitar. Victoria Everette St John sang “What Child is This” and Gloria Walker played “The March of the Tin Soldiers” on her flute.

Ford and Jo Ann Bradford sang “Go Tell it on the Mountain” and “Children go Where I Send Thee.”

The meeting closed with the NFMC benediction song, “The Gift of Song.”

The Matinee Musical Club is a member of the Texas and National Federation of Music Club.—Pam Graham, secretary.

Crown Garden Club

holds Christmas Party

Crown Garden Club members met at the home of Barbara Nelson for their annual meeting and Christmas Party. It was also a birthday celebration for Martha Newman and members sang happy birthday to her and she was presented with a gift.

A business meeting was held before the luncheon where officers were elected for the 2019 year. President will be Jimette Fatheree; vice-president, Michelle Fletcher; secretary, Betty Bartlett; treasurer, Barbara Valek; reporter, Peggy Cooke.

Treasurer Barbara Valek reporter that the club had donated $100 each to Christmas Round Up and Milam County Child Protective Services. The club also brought food items to be donated to the local food pantry.

A luncheon followed and then a holiday gift exchange

The January meeting will be a luncheon meeting, time and place to be decided.—Peggy Cooke, reporter.

Thursday Reading Club meets at Nelson home

Thursday Reading Club members met at the home of Barbara Nelson for their annual Christmas Party.

Hosting with Mrs. Nelson were members of this year’s yearbook committee, Annette Stone, Wendy Upson and Linda Wilson.

The group brought food items for the local food pantry and donated $125 each to Christmas Roundup and Child Protective Services of Milam County.

The group enjoyed a Christmas dinner and Chinese Christmas gift exchange. The yearbook committee presented a skit based on a true story about the World War II Christmas truce.

The January meeting will be hosted by the yearbook committee at the library with the program presented by Lynn Young on “The Da Vinci Code,” by Dan Brown, following the theme of “Our Great American Read,” chosen by the committee.

The meeting closed with the reading of The Collect, written by Mary Stewart in April, 1904.—Peggy Cooke, reporter.
