Organizations update scholarships, deadlines

Many local and area organizations have scholarships available in 2019.

Locklin Cemetery group set to meet

The Locklin Cemetery Association will hold a semi-annual meeting at 10 a.m. March 2, at San Gabriel Christian Church Fellowship Hall.

Upcoming events will be discussed and all members and anyone interested are welcome to attend.

A work day has been scheduled March 18 at the cemetery.

Milam Music Fest set March 2 at The Ranch

Several locally-based bands will perform during the Milam Music Fest, scheduled for Saturday, March 2 at The Ranch.

The event begins at 6 p.m. and there’s no cover charge.

Musicians slated to perform are David & Waylon, shrubs, and “Earth kind/”

Master Gardeners will be on hand to assist with plant selection and questions.

Also on tap is a prize drawing with more than 30 items including plants, gardening tools, gift baskets, wreaths, yard art, and homemade items.

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Tickets can be purchased at the plant sale or in advance at the Milam County AgriLife Extension Office or from any Master Gardener.

Genealogical Society to meet on Thursday

The Milam County Genealogical Society will meet Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Alcoa, Rockdale.

The new handicap access entrance to the church is adjacent to the Palmer Street entrance to the parking lot.

Jack Brooks is in charge of the program.

Members with surnames beginning with P through Z will be in charge of refreshments. Ice, drinks and paper goods will be provided.

Robert Lawhon, Treble Soul, Brooke Graham, Elixir and Bluesadillos.

Elixir will be featured Thursday, Feb. 28, on the morning news program, 9:30 to 10 a.m., on KTBC, Fox 7, in Austin and will promote the Milam Music Fest, according to Russell Fischer, owner of The Ranch.

The Ranch is located at 415 US 79 in Rockdale, on Thursday, Feb.

Lions Pancake Supper ahead March 5 at park

The 19th annual Rockdale Noon Lions Club’s Pancake & Bacon Supper is set for March 5 in the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park.

Hours are 5 to 7 p.m., price for adults is $8 per plate, $5 for children 6 to 12 and children 5 and under eat free.

Little River Basin Master Gardener Association will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9 inside the Milam County Expo Building in Cameron.
