Alcoa retirees to meet March 14 in Thorndale
First 2019 meeting of the Rockdale Alcoa Retirees will be Thursday, March 14, at the Thorndale VFW Hall, next door to Fireman’s Hall on FM
486.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with a business meeting at 5:45, with election of officers, and a meal at 6 p.m.
No silent auction, Dessert group is M-Z—Doug Williams, spokesman.
Master Gardeners plan plans sale for Saturday
Little River Basin Master Gardener Association will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9 inside the Milam County Expo Building in Cameron. Hundreds of plants available for purchase, including annuals, perennials, roses, vegetables, herbs, natives, shrubs, and “Earth kind/”
. Master Gardeners will be on hand to assist with plant selection and questions.
Also on tap is a prize drawing with more than 30 items including plants, gardening tools, gift baskets, wreaths, yard art, and homemade items.
Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Tickets can be purchased at the plant sale or in advance at the Milam County AgriLife Extension Office or from any Master Gardener.
Crown Garden Club meets at Burnett home
The February meeting of the Crown Garden Club was a salad luncheon hosted by Peggy Cooke and Geri Burnett at the Burnett home.
The program was presented by Master Gardener Aloma Clayton who showed visuals and told of constructing a keyhole garden to grow vegetables, some fruits and flowers in a small area, by putting compost items, such as kitchen waste, directly into the garden.
Jimette Fatheree, president , led the business meeting. Other officers for 2019 are: Michele Fletcher, vice president; secretary, Betty Bartlett; treasurer, Barbara Valek; reporter Peggy Cooke. The club will meet in March for their annual member plant exchange with hostesses Pat Overall, Renee Pounders and Joyce Skinner.
Fatheree presented gifts of bedding plants to members with February birthdays: Diana Sousares, Pounders, Overall, Patsy David and Cooke, a holdover from January.
Door prizes of succulent plants were won by Sousares, Nancy Marburger and Overall.—Peggy Cooke, reporter
