Matinee Music Club has sweet deal on dessert fundraiser

Matinee Musical Club of Rockdale will hold its “dessert of the month” fundraiser with all proceeds going to the Louise Hale Sessions Memorial Scholarship. The winner receives one homemade dessert every month for a year, with the winner selecting a delivery date starting in November 2019.

The drawing will be held Nov. 1 at the Library’s First Friday Coffee, and the winner need not be present to win.

Tickets are available from any Matinee Musical Club member and at the front desk of the Lucy Hill Patterson Library. Purchase 1 ticket chance for $5 or 5 tickets for $20.

Girl scouts hosting membership drive

Milam County Girl Scouts will hold a recruiting event at the Cameron Dairy Queen for all girls in Milam County interested in joining Girl Scouts. We have troops in every town in Milam County, said spokesperson

The event will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday with free small blizzards and free membership to all who join that evening.

Minerva meeting

The Annual Minerva Homecoming and Cemetery Association Meeting will be held at noon on Sunday at the Minerva Community Center, 378 CR 232 Loop, Rockdale, TX 76567.

There will be a brief Minerva-Midway Cemetery Meeting followed by a covered dish lunch at noon. Bring family, friends and photos and enjoy a day of visiting, said Deborah Dean, spokesperson.

Davilla Fall Fest ahead with fun, food, games

Davilla Community Center will host its fourth annual Fall Fest on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 5-9 p.m.

There will be fun and games, food, a silent auction, a prize drawing and a fireworks display at 20803 North FM 487, Davilla.

Activities include, ring toss, fish and duck ponds, cakewalk, corn hole, hayride, bounce house, petting zoo and M&M guessing game.

Food served will be sausage wraps, pulled pork sandwiches, chips, pie, brownies, cupcakes, cookies, drinks and water.

Sharp cemetery group sets business meeting

The Sharp Cemetery Association will hold its annual business meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Sharp Presbtyerian Church annex on North FM 487. For more information contact Mollie Modesette at 512-964-5547.

Rice Cemetery

The 44th annual Rice Cemetery Association and Foundation meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at the cemetery on County Road 241.

Contributions may be mailed to: Rice Cemetery Foundation, 3965 S. Highway 77, Cameron, TX 76520.

Lawrence Chapel

The annual Lawrence Chapel Chili Supper will be held starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Lawrence Chapel Fellowship Hall. Organizers say hot dogs are also on the menu.

Those attending are asked to bring items for a silent auction, including cakes, pies, cookies, brownies and homemade ice cream to be sold during the supper and auctioned.

Volunteers are welcome and appreciated, said Billy Hafernik, president.

Donations are used to maintain the cemetery, church and fellowship hall grounds.
