‘Dessert’ event $ 6 5 0 for scholarship

The third annual Matinee Musical Club Dessert-of-the-Month Fundraiser raised approximately $650 through ticket sales. The proceeds will go to the Louise Hale Sessions Memorial Scholarship fund which is given to a graduating senior who will be pursuing music beyond high school.

The music club’s Nov. 14 meeting will be held at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library and is open to the public. The program recognizes November as the National Parade of American Music, and will focus on the second 25 years of the USO, with music of the Korean and Vietnam war eras. The program starts at 7 p.m.

Surviving the holidays seminar tomorro

GriefShare coordinator Malda Burns is offering a seminar on surviving the holidays after a loved one’s death on Thursday (Nov. 7) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Meadow-brook Baptist Church.

Registration fee is $5. Child care will not be available.

The seminar features video interviews with counselors, grief experts and other people who have experienced the holidays after their loved one’s death and who offer practical suggestions and reassurances.

Attendees will receive a survival guide with practical tips, encouraging words, journaling ideas and exercises for daily help throughout the holidays.

Christmas Cottage, craft show Friday

The annual Christmas Cottage and Craft Fair will be held Friday at Bea’s Kitchen in Cameron from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The New Salem EEA booth will have baked potatoes and desserts, while the Branchville EEA club booth will have stew, cornbread and tea cakes.

The Rockdale I & GN Museum will have its chili dinner benefit on Vaturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with homemade chili trimmings for $10. Desserts will also be offered.

There will also be live entertainment and a silent auction.

On Saturday the Oak Club will host a bean and chili cookoff benefitin the American Cancer Society. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

Entry fees are $20 for chili and $10 for beans.

The rules are: entries must be prepared on site, and no beans are allowed in the chili.

The annual fundraiser sponsored by the Milano Senior Citizens will be held on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Milano Civic Center. Kimberlee Leber, a Texas Gospel Blues singer/songwriter, will be performing.

Admission for adults will be $10, children 12 and under are $5, and family packages are $17.50.

Doors will open and concessions will start at 6:00 pm. A variety of sandwiches and pies will be available for $2, and drinks and chips for $1.
