Retirement celebration for Dr. D.L. Brooks Sr.
New Jerusalem Inter-Denominational Church will hold a celebration for retiring pastor Dr. D. L. Brooks Sr. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10, at the church. Dr. Brooks has served the church for 41 years.
The retirement and appreciation banquet will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, followed by another celebration the following day at 2:30 p.m. For more information, call 512-446-5564.
Minerva Community Center holds meeting
The Minerva Community Center will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at the community center. Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend.

Alcoa Retirees meeting September 9
Rockdale Alcoa Retirees will hold a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Thorndale Veteran’s Memorial Hall (formerly known as the VFW Hall) at 5 p.m.
A barbecue meal will be served after the meeting. Plates are $15 at the door. Donations for hall rental will be accepted.
Desserts will be brought by last names starting with M through Z.

Milam County Girl Scouts acts of service
Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX) are celebrating their centennial, the 100th anniversary of the first Girl Scout troop formed in our area in 1921.
“As part of our centennial celebration, Milam County Girl Scouts has chosen to perform service in Milam County. We are looking to do 100 acts of service in our county. We are providing services for free. It can be for a church, organization, city, individual or group,” said Rachel Owens, Milam County Girl Scouts Service Unit Director.
