The Milano High School and Milano Junior High cheerleaders won the “best overall” entry for the 2019 Milano Christmas parade held Saturday. The groups also took first place in the vehicles and tractors division.
This year’s parade theme was “The Magic of Santa’s Workshop.” There were 19 parade entries. At the annual community Christmas dinner served after the parade, 250 plates were served.
Parade winners included:
• Best overall - MHS and MJH cheerleaders
• Floats - 1. Milam County Brown Santa; 2. Milam County Crime Stoppers; 3. Girl Scouts.
• Vehicles and tractors - 1. MHS and MJH cheerleaders; 2. 1940 yellow Chevy truck, Jody Pratt;
3. 1965 red Chevy truck, Tommy Standard.
• Small motorized/battery operated - 1. Cecilia Martinez, four-wheeler;
2. Hollar Karts, golf cart;
3. Joshua, Gary and Glenda Westbrook, “Jesus is the Reason for the Season.”
• Horses - 1. Shiner Thurman, Jayci Thurman, Titus Briden, Santa and his Elves; 2. Jack Cooper, Spooks the horse; Kayce Midkiff, Wrangler and Honey.
Plaques were awarded in each division and a special cash prize was awarded to the “best overall” entry.
MJH ONE-ACT PLAY—Milano Junior High’s One-Act Play won the District 25 Zone 79 contest held Dec. 17 at MHS. The group’s entry of “Dearly Departed” by David Bottrell and Jesse Jones saw nine members of the cast receive acting awards. All students of the cast and crew are in eighth grade.
Greg Story and Toni Meyer earned the district’s Top Performer awards.
Edison Bui and Montgomery Popham received All-Star Cast medals. Skyler Collier, Zoe Clo-re, Emmanuel Erickson, Lakota Seal and Mason Meschwitz all earned spots on the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast.
Also performing in the show were: Heather Wall, Kadance Koenig, Madison Carmichael, Kylie Reynolds and Wyatt Koenig.
Crew members were: Amelia Mauldin (stage manager), Bradley Bakken (lights) and Mario Owens (sound).
The group was directed by Susan Meyer and Travis Gage, and assisted by Amanda Storey.
MVFD FUNDRAISER—The Milano Volunteer Fire Department has begun its yearly fundraiser. Tickets for the annual drawing are now on sale and are$5 each or five for $20. Prizes include: two Henry Golden Boy 22 LR, two Taurus Public Defender .45/410, Remington 700, Marlin 336W 30-30, Remington 870 Shotgun, Ruger American Bolt Action 22 LR, Taurus 738 TCP 380 and $100 Academy gift card.
