Rockdale Junior High’s ACE program has lots to offer both students and their families. Tutorial sessions are available in both the mornings and the afternoons for students to get extra help or catch up on missing work.

Every morning from 7-7:45 a.m. we have Rise and Shine Cafe. The students gather in the library for hot chocolate and social activities. The afternoons are filled with various academic and enrichment activities for the students to choose from. Some of the many activities we offer include arts and crafts, cooking, science experiments, video games, gym time, makerspace, DIY projects, cosmetology, painting, wood burning, teen talk, dungeons and dragons and many more. This year we added esports, which is a UIL approved video game competition.

We started in the fall with one team and one game to try it out. Currently, our team is in first place and is on track to compete at the State Contest in Duncanville on December 17. Next semester, we plan on adding more teams and more games so that more students have a chance to participate.

This year we also started a student run coffee/ hot chocolate bar called Starbooks Cafe. The students take, make and deliver orders with supervision from ACE staff. They get to practice customer service skills as well as important job skills. We are adding to our enrichment class options often and use input from students on what types of activities they would like for us to offer.

We also offer many opportunities for parent involvement. We collaborated with the Chamber of Commerce to volunteer at the Breakfast with Santa event. Our students ran various arts and crafts booths for the kids. We are also hosting a family game night on December 13 from 6-8 p.m. The book fair will be open for families, and we will have many games and activities for families and friends to participate in together. The Starbooks Cafe will also be open for family game night. We are planning many more family opportunities for the Spring semester. If there is a family activity that you would like for us to offer, please let us know.

We are looking forward to the Spring semester and all that we will have to offer for students and families. Feel free to contact us at RJH with any questions about the program or to get your child involved.
