Many individuals, businesses and organizations were honored Thursday evening as the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet in the KC Hall.
Theme was “Lights, Camera, Action,” and many of those in attendance came dressed in “Oscar night” finery and everyone entered the hall on a red carpet to be greeted and escorted to seats, if desired.
The top two individual awards went to longtime volunteers for a variety of Rock-dale events.
Pete Rubio III won citizen of the year honors for his work during the past year and Homer Mowdy was named outstanding citizen for a long period of service to the community.
Milam County Historical Society was named organization of the year and Aaron’s Sales and Service picked up the business of the year plaque.
Paul and Rita Johnson received an award for outstanding service, Allen Sanders picked up the community achievement award and Jennifer Montelongo won ambassador of the year honors.
UNITED WAY—Perry & Perry Builders picked up the United Way’s top honor, the W.H. Cooke Award, given every year to the organization’s top supporter.
Also, support awards went to Rockdale Welding Supply, Citizens National Bank, Attorneys of Texas Title Inc., Rockdale Federal Credit Union, Bassler Energy Service, Texas Propane, Ben and Betsy Jones, Janelle Jackson, Glade Lantz, Mike and Suzie Morris, Rockdale Signs & Photography and Abiding Choice/Rachel and Chris Gerren.
Outstanding student awards were presented to Rockdale High School students Reyna Gonzales, Macy Knesek, Courtney Eoff, Stephanie Pantaleon, Joshua Davenport, Zachary Davis and Doss Hasselbach.
PROGRAM—Invocation was given by County Judge Steve Young and colors were presented by Rockdale Boy Scout Troop 790.
Courtney Eoff sang the National Anthem and Chamber Chair Rebecca Vasquez gave the welcome and presented door prizes throughout the evening.
Speaker was Craig Krause of Direct Development.
Chamber officers are:
Vasquez, chair; Cassidy Paschall, chair-elect; Brad Cartwright, treasurer; Julia Cardona, secretary.
Other directors are Joe Mahan, Russell Fischer, Suzie Turner, Monique Gebhart, Terri Sandoval and Bud Houston. Associate directors are Britini Pesak, Jason Hollinger and Janice King. Denise Brock is executive director.
Ambassadors are Janice King, Betty Backhaus, Ann King, Renate Rocha, Kim Jeter, Araceli Vargas, Charlie Watson, Pat Watson, Jennifer Montelongo and Julia Cardona.
