The first Sunflower/Melodie Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund 5K run/walk and kids one-mile fun run/walk is set for Saturday at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell. The event is in honor of Melodie Jones who died in a car accident in 2017.
Registration is $30 for the 5K and $25 for the kids run. Online registration is at www.melodiesmeow.com. Same day registration and T-shirt pickup is 7:30-8:15 a.m. The kids run will start at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K is scheduled for 9 a.m. Organizers ask to please wear bright colors the day of the race. Sunflowers, crazy socks and tutus are encouraged.
FIFTH SUNDAY SINGING— Friendship Baptist Church will host a Fifth Sunday Singing at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30. Refreshments will follow. The church is located about seven miles south of Milano on Texas Highway 36 towards Caldwell.
FALL GARAGE SALE—The Milano Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary’s fall garage sale is set for Oct. 4-6 at the fire station, 305 E Avenue C.
The group is now accepting donations and can be contacted for pick up. The fire station, located at 305 E Avenue C/ US 190-TX 36, will be open to receive donations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday of this week and daily beginning Monday, Oct. 1. MILANO EXES—The Milano Ex-Students Association will hold a get-together before, during and after the Eagles homecoming game on Friday, Oct. 12, in the Milano Elementary cafeteria. This is different than the usual Saturday luncheon that had been held in years past.
The athletic booster club will be holding a meal at this time as well. The group will not have a live or silent auction at the gathering, but rather a basket will be available for money donation that will help defray the cost of mailing the meeting notices.
The association gave out seven $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in the spring. Donations are always being accepted for the scholarship fund. PROJECT GRADUATION— Milano Project Graduation is holding a raffle for $1 a chance or six for $5. Prizes include a sea foam green RTIC 45 cooler, handmade solid oak cutting board, tabletop patio heater with a textured steel bronze finish, a handcrafted fall wreath and a $50 gift card. Contact any MHS senior to purchase tickets.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION—Milano Elementary School is collecting Box Tops for Education again this school year. Those little coupons equal free money for our school and students. Let me know if you need me to swing by and pick them up, or you can send them to Milano Elementary School with your favorite student.
