CALDWELL—The annual Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit. will be Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Caldwell Civic Center.
The civic center is located at 103 Texas 21 in Caldwell, according to Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) spokesman Doug Box.
“All are welcome to attend. The summit is free and open to the public with lunch provided,” he said.
PROGRAMS—“There are going to be some great programs again at this year’s Summit that show how the District works to protect the water in our aquifers,” said Burleson County Judge Keith Schroeder.
With new groundwater modeling information available, POSGCD Board President Sidney Young-blood added, “The program ‘Vista Ridge: What Happens Now’ at 1:10 pm is a must see presentation.”
Youngblood said hydro-geologists, Steve Young and Toya Jones, and will show how the board responds to the concerns of the citizens in our district.”
Milam County Judge Steve Young stated: “As empowered by the State of Texas, POSGCD has done an exemplary job of protecting the aquifers below each landowner’s property while preserving each landowner’s right to produce their water.”
Gary Westbrook, POSGCD general manager, said the summit lineup includes speakers who regularly give presentations at water conferences across the state where attendees gain professional educational credit and would normally pay hundreds of dollars to attend.”
Westbrook said the Summit provides “a great opportunity to stay up to date on current groundwater issues and the state’s requirements on local groundwater management”
ACP—The new Post Oak Savannah Aquifer Conservancy Program (ACP) is in full swing with landowners signing up every day, according to Box.
“All details are available and all questions will be answered,” he said.
“This program now enables landowners to create a legacy of stewardship by working together with each other and the district to place their groundwater resources into a long-term conservation program,” Box said.
“This is a strictly volunteer program where the landowner maintains ownership of their groundwater,” he added.
The ACP is fully funded by fees collected by the district.
WELL MONITORING—Bobby Bazan, POSGCD’s Water Resource Management Specialist, will explain the critical well monitoring results for the year.
“Well monitoring is one of the ways POSGCD insures our goals preserve, conserve, and protect groundwater resources in Burleson and Milam Counties,” Box added.
He said Ralph Sifuentes, POSGCD field technician, will update everyone on the district’s aggressive well monitoring network to ensure compliance with the districts management plan.
“This network allows us to keep our eye on the water levels in the aquifers in our district,” Box said.

“This is a free service POSGCD is offering in conjunction with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension offices in Burleson and Milam Counties, as well as the Texas Water Resource Institute and Texas Well Owner’s Network,,” he said.
“This water test is a $65 value. You will need to test your water the next morning, Aug. 15, and turn your sample in to your County Extension office the same day by 1 p.m.
