HUMBLE—Ray David Kaufmann, 88, of Humble died Monday, March 12, 2018.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 23, at Houston National Cemetery Chapel with Larry Dangerfield of First Baptist Church of Humble officiating.

Mr. Kaufmann was born Sept. 22, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Walter and Ella (Stoehr) Kaufmann.

He attended Indiana University and George Washington University.

He married Virginia Mae Fenwick on March 22, 1952, in Colonial Beach, Virginia.

Mr. Kaufmann served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a SK3 from February 1951 to November 1954 before being honorably discharged.

He worked for NASA as a system analyst for 18 years before retiring in 1983.

Mr. Kaufmann was a member of First Baptist Church in Humble where he was a children’s ministry teacher for 14 years and served on the finance committee.

He enjoyed golf, tennis, reading and coaching youth baseball with his friend, CJ Guerra.

Mr. Kaufmann participated in collegiate track at Indiana University and spent 12 years with the St. Louis Cardinals Scouting Division.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Kaufmann; his parents, Walter and Ella Kaufmann; and a brother, Fred Kaufmann.

Survivors are his wife, Virginia Kaufmann of Humble; a son, David Kaufmann and wife Pam of Rockdale; a daughter, Debbie Andress of Humble; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Kaufmann of Humble; his grandchildren, Kristy Kaufmann, Cody Kaufmann and wife Amanda, all of Rockdale, Mike Kaufmann and wife Brittney of Fort Worth, Will Andress, Jenna Andress and George Diaz, and Emmy Andress, all of Humble; his great-grandchildren, Cade, Chloe, Cora and Charlotte Kaufmann, and Cohen Villarreal, all of Rockdale, Grayson Diaz of Humble; and a sister, Joan Beckmeier of Houston; also, numerous nieces and nephews.
