RHS powerlifting teams competed against Class 5A and 6A schools at the Wildcat Invitational in Elgin on Saturday afternoon and left with a fifth place finish for the Tigers and broken schools records by Lady Tiger lifters Autumn Montelongo and Mackenzie Mus-to.
“I thought we did really well this week,” said Jacob Campsey, RHS head power-lifting coach. “Our placing won’t show it just because we went up against larger schools.
“But the guys had a pretty solid outing, and some of our girls had a really good meet.”
The Rockdale boy’s powerlifting team finished fifth above Elgin, Pflugerville Connally and Thrall.
Nathan Jeter, a 2018 regional qualifier, led the squad with a second place finish in the 114-pound weight class. Robert Barrera also placed second in the Super Heavy Weight class (SHW).

Gavin Aguilar placed seventh in the 242-pound weight class and Nathan Thomas placed 17th in the 165-pound weight class.
Lady Tigers – Montelongo broke four school records in the 148-pound girl’s weight class with a squat of 290, bench press of 135, dead lift of 285 and total weight of 710 pounds for RHS.
Musto also broke the school record for a dead lift of 285 in the 132-pound girl’s weight class. Both girl’s finished sixth in their respective divisions.
