THS golfs team
compete in Cameron
Both Thorndale golf squads competed in Cameron this past week. Last Tuesday, Mattie Fisher and Landry Laywell endured near freezing temperatures, according to head coach Lisa Von Gonten, and only played nine holes. Fisher shot a 54 and Laywell shot a 59. Lago Vista won the girls division of the tournament. On Wednesday, the boys played in much nicer weather and played 18 holes. Justin Paxton led the Bulldogs with a 94 and brothers Evan and Jake Ivy shot a 114 and 120, respectively. Cameron won the boy’s division. Thorn-dale’s next schedule tournament is Monday, April 1, in Taylor.
Reaves named
District 25-2A MVP
This past week, 11 Thorn-dale Bulldog basketball player received honors for their play in District 25-2A in the 2018-2019 season. Leading scorer Sam Reaves was named the most valuable player and Kolby Neumeyer was named the co-defensive player of the year. Evan Ivy was named to the first team and Ty Kovar and Michael Herzog were named to the second team. Jagger Rubio, Nick Gerren, Garrett Bernstein, Chance Betak and Logan Davis were all honorable mentions. The Bulldogs finished were 27-8 overall and made it to the Region IIII semi-finals before losing to Port Aransas 42-40.
Laywell gets second
at 6A Tournament
Thorndale High School’s Landry Laywell placed second at the Pflugerville Connolly tournament this past Friday.
Laywell shutout her first three opponents from Killeen, Georgetown and Leander Rouse before defeating a girl from Round Rock 6-0, 6-1 in the semi-finals. She lost in the finals 6-4, 6-2 to another player from Georgetown.
THS baseball, softball win 2 straight in 2 days
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs shutout Rosebud-Lott on the road 7-0 after beating them at home the day before 7-3 to open play in District 25-2A.
THS if off for the remainder of spring break and face Bartlett at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs also started off spring break undefeated, taking down the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars 17-0 in Falls County on Tuesday and taking down rival Thrall 5-2 at home on Monday.
The girls play next at home in a double-header with Leander Glenn. Games are scheduled for 5 p.m. and 6:30.
MHS diamond squads fall to Holland
On Tuesday, the Milano Eagles baseball team lost to Holland after losing the day before in a close 6-5 game that included a Danny Cloud grand slam.
The Eagles will return to the field on Tuesday at home against Rosebud-Lott.
The Lady Eagles lost 10-2 to Holland in extra innings on Tuesday and shutout Granger 7-0 the day before. Laynie Bastow homered against the Lady Lions.
The girls will also return to the field Tuesday in Bremond.
Milano boys win Thrall meet, sweep relay races
The MHS boys track team won the Thrall Relays and every relay race this past Thursday.
In the sprint relay, Gus Downey, Christian Thurman, Drew Demeritt and Devonte Jones won the race with a 44.2. The 800-meter relay team was ran in 1:36 with Thurman, Downey, Kathen Funburg and Parker Jones. The mile-relay was won in a time of 3:44 with Parker, Devonte, Demeritt and Chris Sootoo.
Sootoo won the 800-meter run and Parker won the 3200.
Devonte won the long jump and the 400-meter run.
For the girls, Sterling Robertson won the discus and Emma Batten placed second in the 800.
Both Milano squads will run in Franklin on Thursday, March 21.
