Gee family pioneers from 19th Century

Dear editor, My name is Betty (Key) Alford. This is some information about who settled at and around Gee Mountain. (Reporter story last week). Alfred Lafayette (A.L) Gee was was my great grandfather. He was born in 1860 in Caldwell He is buried in the Black Jack Cemetery.

City was always going to have a ‘rockin’ name

Dear editor, I thoroughly enjoyed your wonderful article, Gee, what a mountain, in the May 5 Reporter. Thanks to you and the Noacks for trekking over hill and dale (and mountain) in search of Rockdale’s rich and entertaining history.

Oh, the frantic pace of our big-city life

Sometimes the pace of living in the big city just gets to you. It seems like you never get a chance to slow down and you take your life in your hands doing the most mundane things. You know the city I’m talking about. It’s Rockdale.

No, the county isn’t broke; here’s a report

Iam often asked if the county is broke. This typically comes up when someone calls with a complaint. The answer is no! In fact, the county will receive almost $12 million in revenue in 2019. All of that money is spoken for and budgeted for services the county provides, including road repairs.

Looking back...

10-20-40-100 YEARS AGO 100 YEARS AGO.... Milam County Commissioners okayed an upgrade for the Rockdale-Tracy Road, noting increased oil activity in the Tracy area. Construction was expected to begin by June 15.

Safe prayers don’t exist

He told me to tell you that When something bad happens in our culture we often see a dependence on God – it’s not real; it’s fake; it’s a 9-11 kind of faith. After that national tragedy, we saw churches full for one week but they were empty the next.

4-H announces summer camp schedules

COMMENTS FROM MICAH Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Milam County 4-H will hold three free day camps and some other fun activities this summer. FUN—Fun Day Camp will be held June 7th and is for Clovers- K-2nd grade and will be 8 a.m. to 12-noon at Bea’s Kitchen in Cameron.

EDITORIAL County Judge Steve Young took one small step for Rockdale and one giant leap for Milam County, when he invited the county’s movers and shakers to the first-of-its-kind Milam County Economic Summit in Cameron on Monday.
