Methodist preacher Charles Allen tells of a little child who went on an errand for her mother. She was late coming back, and her mother asked for an explanation. The child said that a playmate down the street had fallen and broken her doll and that she had helped her.

CHURCH NEWS

First Baptist Church to celebrate 150 years The Sesquicentennial isn’t over yet. On Sunday, Sept. 22, First Baptist Church will celebrate 150 years of faithful Christian service and ministry with a 10:30 a.m. service and a 3 p.m. service. Former pastors, staff and members will be in attendance.

Overcoming challenges

Years ago, God put a handful of men in my path. Two were adult children of people I knew, the other was a former lawyer from Hawaii. Each of these men was chronically unemployed or underemployed and at the time I wondered if any of them would ever overcome the challenges life had given them.

DONATION

Rockdale Rotary Club made a $200 donation to the annual United Way Radiothon which was held on Friday at the Chamber of Commerce with KRXT announcer Charlie McGregor.

Rockdale ISD seeking volunteers for Campus Education Councils

Rockdale Independent School District is seeking parent, business and community representatives for openings on the Campus Education Councils. The purpose of the educational councils is to provide advice to the principals and superintendent but have no regulatory powers.

Town & Country Club of Thorndale met recently for a family night. Members were asked to donate school supplies to Thorndale Elementary.

We’re Expecting! Rockdale’s New Industrial Park

The MDD has been working very hard to activate a property as a new industrial park. This 550-acre tract is at the southeast corner of the Highway 77 and 79 intersection. It is owned by a private company.

A fundraiser for Jaxon Gonzales will be held this Saturday at Walmart from 6 a.m. until sold out. One the menu are breakfast tacos, sausage wraps, desserts, chips, candy, water and sodas. Jaxon is the son of Julian Gonzales and Emily Garza. He is suffering from stage five renal disease.
