Homecoming deemed a great success

Homecoming was a great success. It was nice to see so many former students return to enjoy football and the festivities. I was the DJ for the homecoming dance. Discovered that is not something I have a talent for, but the kids seemed to have a good time. School dances haven’t changed that much.

ORGANIZATIONS

Rockdale Rotary Club meets the first, third and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department from noon to 1 p.m. Lunch is provided. Rockdale Noon Lion’s Club also meets at RVFD on the first and third Wednesday of each month with lunch provided.

REUNIONS

Hairston-Diver reunion to be held Saturday The annual Hairston-Diver Family Reunion will be held on Saturday at the Milano Community Center in downtown Milano. Please note this is a change of date from previous reunions. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. A potluck lunch will be served.

O ur family is sad at the death of Sandra Dworaczyk’s husband, Edward. Most of you know Sandra is Wayne’s sister. We had lots of good times together. Younger people, spend all the time you can with those in your family who are older. If you are around them, a lot of your time, they will be missed.

Ihang out with some men from my church on Monday nights. It’s low-key and we sit on the back deck of a house where great Christians live. We sit in lawn chairs with some of those “fun” lights hanging above us.

It was made into a screenplay for film, but the book is one of the most inspiring I have read: Where the Crawdads Sing, written by Delia Owens. It’s a murder mystery/love story/ overcoming- the-odds book. Kya is a girl who raised herself from age 10 in the marshes of North Carolina.

NEW QUEEN CROWNED—Georgia Woodard was crowned homecoming queen at Friday night’s game against the Troy Trojans. Georgia is the daughter of Wendell and Sharee Mitchell and plans to attend Texas A&M University to pursue a doctorate in education.

Milano VFD garage sale fundraiser this week

The Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary will hold their annual garage sale fundraiser Oct. 5-7 at the Milano Fire Station at 305 E. Ave. C. Hours of operation are Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations are still being accepted.
