Milano ISD students honored

Modified and virtual graduation ceremonies were held last week for Milano ISD students. Valedictorian for the MHS Class of 2020 was Abbigail Miller and salutatorian was Angela Zeig. Both girls plan on attending the University of Texas at Austin.

Thousands of Americans died 76 years ago Saturday when Allied forces turned the tide of the European part of World War II in France. A 21-year-old parachutist, from a longtime Rockdale family, is still there. Pfc. Francisco “Frank” Garza was one of the first American casualties of that historic day.

There was no chance classmates Monterious Hancox and Ahkeem Williams would be forgotten by the RHS Class of 2020. The two, ages 9 and 8 respectively, died in a vehicle-train collision east of Rockdale on May 24, 2010. Also killed was four-year-old Ki’ade Hancox.

You gotta have your priorities right even in a pandemic, so I went to Lowe’s and bought a new charcoal grill last week. I went old school and bought a Weber. I was so well covered in my PPE I could have done surgery. Totally protected. Ain’t no virus going to get me. Enough about that.

St. John’s United Methodist reopens office

St. John’s United Methodist Church reopened its church office on Monday. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Worship services are continuing online at 11 a.m. Sundays on the church Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/stjohnsrockdale.

CASE REPRIEVE LOOKS TO BE OVER

  It appears Milam County's week-long break from new COVID-19 cases is over.   The Reporter received an email at mid-morning Thursday advising that a Milam woman had been admitted to a Georgetown hospital and was diagnosed with the virus.

Milano sets graduation for Friday Commencement ceremonies are set for 7 p.m. Friday, at Pruitt Field, according to Supt. Robert Westbrook. Seniors are limited in number of guests who may attend, he said, but a live feed will be provided through the school’s social media page.
