FALLING FAR FROM THE TREE Now that the holiday season is over I am ready for spring. I n the afternoons right now it already feels like spring to me. And now that I have a new yard to plant things in am looking forward to digging in the dirt.

JUDGE’S COMMENTS t was just over a year ago that Little River Healthcare closed its doors in Milam County. W e lost two small hospitals, emergency rooms and clinics in the county. Rockdale was hit the worst as Little River ran the hospital and the clinic.

100 YEARS AGO..... The Tracy-Maysfield Oil Company organized. I t owned 1,8 00 acres surrounding those two communities and also in the Cameron area. The company’s treasurer was County Judge W . G. Gillis.

JUDGE’S COMMENTS One of the true gems of Milam County is our Milam County Historical Museum. The museum is located in downtown Cameron and consists of the original museum and the “Old Town Cameron” museum. Both are cram packed with the wonderful history of the county.

100 YEARS AGO.... Thirty Rockdale women had paid their initial poll taxes and were the way to becoming qualified voters. The 1920 balloting would include the first general election in which women were eligible to vote. In Milam County, 77 women had paid their poll taxes.
