Milam Amateur Radio Club Field Day June 23-24

Members of the Milam Amateur Radio Club (MARC)—KG5DUO—will participate in the national Amateur Radio Field Day Exercise, June 23-24, at 303 San Jacinto Dr., Rockdale.

Members will establish temporary ham radio stations, then demonstrate the ability to communicate both locally and nationally during a grid-down emergency situation.

At this annual event, members showcase the science and skill of Amateur Radio. This event is open to the public and all with an interest in Amateur Radio are encouraged to attend.

For over 100 years, Amateur Radio—sometimes called “ham radio”—has allowed people from all walks of life to experiment with electronics and communications techniques, as well as provide a free public service to their communities during a disaster, emergency or special event.

Ham radio functions completely independent of the Internet or cell phone infrastructure and can do so even without grid power. Stations can be set up almost anywhere in minutes. Field Day demonstrates ham radio’s ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent communications network.

Over 35,000 people from thousands of locations participate in the Annual Field Day.
