10-day closing set

One of Milam County’s busiest highways is set to close at an intersection for about 10 days beginning Friday. It’s at the US 190/79-Texas 36 corner just north of the Union Pacific Railroad overpass in Milano.

Stricken sheriff eyes return to Milam as fund drive starts

The news is mostly good this week as Milam County Sheriff David Greene continues to recuperate in a Portland, Oregon, hospital from a heart attack that nearly claimed his life. Chief Deputy Sheriff Chris White said the next goal is to return the sheriff to Milam County to continue his recovery.

Blood drive set for Saturday

MILANO NEWS The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will hold a blood drive on Saturday, July 21, at the Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s McLane Station. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Donors will receive a “Commit for Life” beach towel.

POSGCD annual water summit set August 15th

Date for the 2018 Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit has been set for Aug. 15. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Caldwell Civic Center. All are encouraged to attend, according to the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District, which hosts the annual event.

Good news on sheriff condition

There’s a long way to go, but the news out of Portland, Oregon—where Milam County Sheriff David Greene is attempting to recover from a heart attack—is better than might have been hoped for just a week ago. Chief Deputy Chris White said physicians have removed an impella pump from Green’s heart.

City pool gets praise, feedback after inspection

Rockdale’s Municipal Swimming Pool got generally good marks, and a number of recommendations, after a recent inspection by the Texas Municipal League. City Manager Chris Whittaker said the recommendations would be implemented “as required.
