CAMERON—Caroline Hubnik Gelner passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and comfor t of her family in a Temple hospital on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026.
Fu n e r a l services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at St. Monica Catholic Church in Cameron.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
Caroline was born Dec. 5, 1944 in Cameron to Frank Joe and Helen Frances Zavrel Hubnik.
She attended C. H. Yoe High School and graduated in 1962.
During her CYO and high school years, she met Billy Gelner. After four years of dating, Billy and Caroline married on April 28, 1962, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church.
They lived in the Pettibone community for almost 30 years before moving into Cameron.
Caroline worked as a bookkeeper for Ondrej’s Blacksmith Shop, was a secretary and office manager at Concepts of Care, and then retired from the State of Texas after 18 years of service in the Department of Aging & Disability. She also worked as a tax preparer for many people and businesses throughout the years.
Billy and Caroline owned and managed the Cameron Bowling Lanes and Knights of Columbus Bingo for several years. In 2008, she and Billy opened Diamond G Logistics Inc. and in 2012 she retired and sold the company.
Her faith was ver y important to Caroline. She tried to pass this one to her family, “If you don’t have Jesus in your life, you have nothing.”
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Hubnik; brother Frankie Joe Hubnik Jr.; and sisters Georgie Ann Glaser and Rosalie Kostroun.
She is survived by her loving husband, Billy Gelner of Cameron; children Jeffry and wife Erica, Jackie, Gregory and wife Malinda, and Terry and wife Shannon.
They have 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
