OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—Thadis Walter Young Jr., 88, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Hospice House in Oklahoma City following a courageous battle with Alzheimers. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Officiating were Pastor G.D. Hardy and Dr. Doug Melton. Mr. Yount was born in 1931 and raised in Rockdale to Thadis Walter Yount Sr. and Annie Bell (Newsom) Yount. After graduating from Rockdale High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1951. While stationed at Norman, Oklahoma, he met his wife, Laura Beth on Oct. 10, 1952, as she was completing her training at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. They were married Jan. 17, 1953. Soon after, Mr. Yount shipped out on the USS Lake Champlain, with tours in the Mediterranean and the Horn of Africa. He was the ship’s Captain for War Plane Readiness. Following an honorable discharge in 1956, he joined the Air National Guard while attending Central State College, graduating with a bachelor degree in economics and industrial arts. Survivors are his wife, Laura Beth (Dirickson); a son, Marc Preston; a daughter, Hayley Beth; brothers Jack and David Yount; and a sister, Sharon; also, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and his dog, Charlie. Pallbearers were Marc Yount, Art Severe, Shawn Davis, James Yount, Bradley Yount and Christopher Yount.
