Ingram

Judith (Judy) Anne Mudge Ingram passed away on Jan. 28, 2020, at the age of 91.

On Feb. 27, 1928, she was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Irvia C. Munger Jr. and Anne Leonard Munger.

On Sept. 5, 1948, she married John H. Mudge in Vancouver, Washington, and they had four children: Wayne, Stephen, Connie and Allen John (A.J.) Mudge.

Judy attended some college classes alongside her husband, but did not graduate while she was a young mother.

She spent her youth raising her children and being an active volunteer with the Episcopal Church, the local PTA, scouts and various volunteer activities to support Alcoa-sponsored events.

Alcoa was her husband John’s employer and they transferred the family around the country. They lived in Cleveland, Ohio; Rockdale, Texas; Badin, North Carolina; and Massena, New York; before returning to Rockdale where her husband John died of cancer on Oct. 25, 1977, at their home.

She and John enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing bridge, and visiting with friends during their marriage of 29 years.

As a widow with a minor child, A.J. Mudge, she joined an organization in Austin called Parents Without Partners. In that group, she met her second husband, Henry Ingram and she moved to Austin. Henry was a member of MENSA so Judy joined MENSA so she and Henry could participate in MENSA activities together.

She was an avid reader and a formidable card player.

While married to Henry, Judy worked at a day-care center because she loved children. After Henry’s death in 1986, Judy was grateful for her work and kept earning more responsibility with Children’s Network daycare center.

Finding herself a widow for the second time, she decided to earn her college degree “before she was old enough to qualify for Medicare.” In 1992, at the age of 64, St. Edwards University awarded her a degree of Bachelor of Liberal Studies and she graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Judy was active in volunteer work throughout her life. She was a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King, she served on the St. John’s Episcopal Church vestry, where she also taught Sunday School and where she was affectionately known as “Miss Judy” and later “Grandma Judy.” She also served as a volunteer for North Central Caregivers of Austin for 20 years of service, concluding in 2009.

She loved her family and always cherished time with them. She spent the last seven years of her life in the loving care of her son and daughter-in-law, Ret. Col. Wayne and Melissa Mudge in Garden Ridge, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her grandchild, John Daniel Mudge on March 21, 2014.

She is survived by her four children, Retired Colonel Wayne Mudge (wife, Melissa Mudge) of Garden Ridge, Texas, Stephen C. Mudge (wife, C. Lynn Smith) of Austin, Texas; Constance (Connie) A. Mudge of Austin, Texas; and Allen John (A.J.) Mudge of Wimberley, Texas; and her grandchildren and their families: Geof Mudge (wife Brandi Mudge) of College Station; Virginia Mudge of Dallas; Marsha Mudge (widow of John Daniel Mudge) and their children Tanner and Jackson Mudge of Cibolo, Texas; Christopher Mudge (wife Lindsey Mudge) and their children Jordan, Taylor, and Colton Mudge of Huntsville, Texas; Melissa Mudge Rich (husband Terry Rich) and their children Kaelyn, Madison, and Logan Rich of Leander, Texas.

There will be two services to celebrate Judy’s life, one on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 11201 Parkfield Drive, Austin, TX 78758. The second service will be on March 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 810 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to either Daughters of the King at St. John’s Episcopal Church or St. Mathews Episcopal Church with addresses listed above.
