4 NEW CASES; TOTAL GOES TO 137; 41 ACTIVE

Five now in hospitals

From County Judge Steve Young late Wednesday:

The current COVID-19 numbers for Milam County are as follows:

137 total confirmed cases

41 current active cases

85 individuals being monitored by the Health Department

371 total persons monitored by the Health Department thus far

5 hospitalized, including 1 patient on a ventilator

19 total hospitalized since March 2020

1 death

Also, today the Health Department released statistics regarding the positivity rate of the tests in the county.  Excluding the 400 tests done last week in the county, of which, we cannot confirm any of those results, the positivity rate is over 48%.  We hope to get some of these results tomorrow.

Finally, today the Yale School of Public Health (Center for Infectious Disease Modeling and Analysis) released a new study indicating that as much as 50% of the spreading is done by those who are pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic.  This places more importance of wearing a mask.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The 48.57-percent positivity rate referred to above covers only the period from June 26-July 3 in statistics released by the Milam County Health Department.

The department has been tracking that statistic in weekly intervals since April 25. The 10-week cumulative average, as of the period covered by the statistics, is 10.7 percent.
