Businesses still at 50% occupancy; bars closed

Friday there were 20 individuals tested in Buckholts, with six positive results. Since Sept. 1, there have been 2,553 individuals tested with 729 positive results for a 28% positivity rate.

Tuesday's testing will be in Thorndale at the Thorndale VFW from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you are a Milam County resident with COVID symptoms, come by for a free antigen test.

The county still doesn't have fresh COVID numbers from the state until later this week. The state is doing the contract tracing in the county so that county staffers can be used in getting residents vaccinated.

The numbers are out of control, County Judge Steve Young said.

"In our country, 3.5 individuals are infected every second. The hospitals in our district are overrun with COVID patients, the business occupancy rate is still 50% and bars are closed," he said.
