COVID-19 claims 39th victim

There has been yet another COVID-19 death. The Milam County death toll now stands at 39. There are seven Milam County residents hospitalized with the virus and two are on ventilators.

"This is simply bad and another serious reminder that we are far from being done with this killer," said Judge Steve Young. "We have become lax with our mask wearing. Our numbers are down and we are vaccinating. In fact, over 3.8 million Texans have been vaccinated and more are done every day. While this is great, we must remember that we have to protect each other to keep safe and healthy. Mask wearing really protects your fellow man and when you don’t wear one in public, you are putting them at risk. In essence, you are indicating that you don’t care if you get them sick. Please don’t be one of these people. Wear your mask in public, keep your distance and above all get vaccinated."

Last week Milam County vaccinated 730 individuals. This is the county has done in one week. This week, the county allotment is 200 doses and there will be a clinic in Rockdale on Thursday. Those to be vaccinated will be called and advised of their appointment times.

"We thank the wonderful “Angels” who have volunteered with this large clinic. As you can image, it takes a lot of help to vaccinate 412 individuals and the only way we can do this is with the help of the wonderful men and women who come out to help out their fellow man. Thank you all," Young said. "We thank the Rockdale Hospital District for graciously allowing us to use the former Rockdale Clinic as the building is in pristine condition and clearly the best place in the county for these mass vaccinations."

There are 2,431 people on the waiting list. More drugs are coming and  eventually get everyone in this county a shot. Also there will be enough vaccine for all second round shots. If you are in group 1A or group 1B, call 254 697 7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net and get on the list. When your turn comes, someone from the county will call and schedule your appointment.
