COVID-19 infections at all-time high

Walmart to begin vaccinating people

Milam County active infections set an all time high Tuesday at 171. This is four more than the prior record of 167 set back in late December 2020.

"Clearly, we have a lot of the COVID-19 virus in Milam County," County Judge Steve Young said in his daily email.

The Rockdale Walmart will also begin receiving and administering the vaccine Friday. One may register online for an appointment. Consent forms may be completed on line as well.

Tuesday, the state announced that the occupancy rate for a business may increase from 50% to 75% immediately. In addition, bars in Milam County may reopen immediately. This is because the hospitalization rate in our area has been under 15% for 7 consecutive days, per Governor Abbott’s Executive Order 32.

Thursday, we will vaccinate about 320 individuals for their second round in Cameron and Friday, we will vaccinate about 200 in Rockdale for their first round shots. The clinic on Friday will include Brookshire Brothers, who has 100 doses to use.

There are over 3,000 people on the county waiting list.

"More drugs are coming and we will eventually get everyone in this county a shot. We can assure everyone that we do and will have enough vaccine for all second round shots. If you are in group 1A or group 1B, call 254 697 7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net and get on the list. When your turn comes, we will call and schedule your appointment," the judge wrote.

When called, download the consent form by clicking on the link below, complete the form and bring it with you to the clinic:

"We thank the Rockdale Hospital District for graciously allowing us to use the former Rockdale Clinic as the building is in pristine condition and clearly the best place in the County for these mass vaccinations," Young said.
