Former Rockdale ISD High School teacher, Shawnee Nicole Despain, 24, Rockdale, surrendered herself to the Milam County Jail for two felony warrants issued by Milam County Justice of the Peace Pct. 3, Andy Isaacs on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
The warrants issued for the offenses of possession/ promotion of child pornography (F-3), and improper relationship between educator and student (F-2) are the result of a criminal investigation conducted by the Rockdale Police Department in regard to allegations Despain had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with one of her now former students while she was employed as a teacher at the Rockdale ISD. Bonds for Despain were set at $200,000 and $150,000 respectively.
On Thursday, Sept. 21, Rockdale Police Department received notification from Rockdale ISD regarding allegations of an inappropriate relationship between Despain and one of her students. The Rockdale ISD immediately suspended Despain pending an internal investigation, and the Rockdale Police Department opened a criminal investigation into the matter with full cooperation of the Rockdale ISD. On Sept. 25, Despain resigned her position with the Rockdale ISD.
