CALDWELL—The annual Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Caldwell Civic Center. The summit is free and open to the public with lunch provided.

The Groundwater Summit lineup includes speakers who regularly give presentations at water conferences across the state where attendees gain professional educational credits and would normally pay hundreds of dollars to attend. The summit provides a great opportunity to stay up to date on current groundwater issues and the state’s requirements for local groundwater management.

“As you may already know, Texas is experiencing remarkable population growth. With more people calling Texas home, it is crucial that we have a plan in place to meet the increasing demand for water resources,” said Gary Westbrook, POSGCD General manager. That’s where the Texas State Water Plan comes into play. Tony Smith, who is a water resources engineer with 24 years of experience, will present a program entitled “Update on Growth in Texas and the State water planning in Central Texas.” Smith serves as a TWCA Board Member and member of the Trinity-San Jacinto and Galveston Bay Basin and Bay Expert Science Team. He currently serves as the project manager of the technical consultant teams for the Region D and Brazos G regional water planning groups, and as project engineer for the development of the State of Oklahoma’s Comprehensive Water Plan.

The Texas State Water Plan is a comprehensive strategy designed to address our state's long-term water needs. It focuses on conservation, infrastructure development, and innovative solutions to ensure that Texans have access to reliable and clean water sources for years to come. The Texas State Water Plan works hard to safeguard against potential water shortages and protect our quality of life. By investing in these measures now, we can proactively manage our water resources and mitigate any future challenges related to population growth. Ensuring water availability benefits individuals and families, supports economic development, and sustains essential industries like agriculture and manufacturing.
